Background

Canada has sent its largest trade delegation to India in more than 30 years, as both countries aim to finalize a trade agreement by the end of the year.

International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu leads nearly 300 business delegates to Mumbai and Bengaluru on the Team Canada Trade Mission. Global Affairs Canada said the visit will link Canadian firms with Indian decision makers and potential clients, and create good-paying jobs at home.

Sidhu said Canadian strength in aerospace, agri-food and clean technology matches India’s rising demand. He said this fit will help Canada more than double its trade with India to $70 billion by 2030.

The delegation covers aerospace and space, clean technologies, information and communication technologies, life sciences and agri-food. The Trade Commissioner Service also lists forestry and wood products as a priority, with business meetings and site visits planned.

The mission follows the fifth round of talks on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, held in Ottawa. Sidhu also reviewed progress with Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal at the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting.

Two-way trade in goods and services reached C$30.4 billion in 2025, the Canadian government said. Canadian direct investment in India stood at C$11.4 billion, while Indian investment in Canada totaled C$9.7 billion. Prime Ministers Mark Carney and Narendra Modi relaunched the talks as part of a reset in ties.
