Background
State-owned telecom company BSNL has recorded strong growth in its financial performance after a series of infrastructure improvements and operational changes. The company’s revenue increased by around 19% in two years, reaching nearly ₹25,000 crore from ₹21,000 crore, according to information shared by the Ministry of Communications.
The growth came about after this detailed review of BSNL operations done by the communications ministry, which pinpointed and fixed a few concerns that were influencing the company’s performance. The review focused on improving network reliability, increasing tower efficiency and expanding customer services across different regions.
The ministry stated that a major rise in operational earnings was achieved by BSNL. Its EBITDA increased from around ₹50 crore to nearly ₹7,000 crore, showing better efficiency and stronger financial health. The company reported total income of ₹23,427 crore in FY25 compared with ₹21,302 crore in FY24.
Officials said infrastructure upgrades played a key role in this improvement. In several regions, including Andhra Pradesh, tower performance had remained low. To improve services, BSNL replaced nearly 50,000 batteries across 50,000 telecom towers, upgraded power systems and replaced old cables. The company also set performance targets for states and telecom circles to improve enterprise business and attract new mobile users.
The ministry further said BSNL continues to offer lower tariffs than private telecom operators. It has also introduced one-rupee SIM cards through India Post outlets and increased awareness activities in rural areas. Meanwhile, BSNL expanded its indigenous 4G network on one lakh towers, making India one of the few countries with its own deep 4G technology.
