Background

SAS is strengthening its presence in India by turning the country into a key centre for artificial intelligence and analytics work. The US-based analytics company is no longer viewing India as a support location. Instead, it is positioning its India operations as a core driver of global innovation and product development.

A major part of this shift is the company’s Pune research and development hub. The facility has grown into a large engineering centre with more than 1,000 employees. It now holds end-to-end responsibility for several global products.

The Pune team works on designing, building, and improving platforms used worldwide. The centre also records strong annual growth and has become the largest development hub for SAS outside its headquarters in Cary.

Company leadership said that the Pune unit now plays a central role in areas such as advanced analytics, cloud platforms, and emerging technologies. It also contributes to major products like the Viya platform and other AI-based solutions. Leadership said the India teams are now a key part of global product development rather than working separately.

SAS is also focusing on four key technology areas, including governance, agentic systems, digital twins and quantum computing. Indian teams are expected to play an important role in building these capabilities. At the same time, the company is expanding its business in India as more firms in banking, healthcare, and manufacturing use data systems to make decisions.

The company is also partnering with technology firms to grow its market while hiring and training more people in India, further strengthening the country’s role as a key hub for global product development and local business growth.
